Mumbai Nagpur Express Way

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has set an ambitious target to start the work on Nagpur-Mumbai super-expressway in December this year. The first phase of this road is to be completed by 2019 and the project will be fully ready by December 2020.
Replying to the governor's address in the state assembly, the CM said that the detailed project report (DPR) will be available in June 2016. Usually, the preparation of DPR for such megaprojects takes months. In order to expedite DPR preparation, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has divided the 793km expressway — passing through 14 districts — into five packages or stretches.

Five agencies are simultaneously preparing the DPR for their respective package. The financial closure of the project will be achieved in September 2016. Asian Development Bank (ADB) has already started its appraisal of the project. Malaysian government has also evinced interest in financing the project. The state government will request the Centre to allow it to sign a government to government (G2G) memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia.
Fadnavis further said that various models for executing the project were being explored and an announcement on the chosen model would be announced soon.

"This road will pave the way for development of Vidarbha and Marathwada. It will be possible for farm produce to reach Mumbai from Nagpur in eight hours. This will immensely benefit the farmers of the two backward regions," he added. The super expressway has been divided into five packages. The first package is for the Jamtha-Butibori MIDC-Wardha-Pulgaon stretch having length of approximately 128km, in Nagpur and Wardha districts. The second package is for the stretch from Pulgaon-Karanja Lad-Sindkhedraja up to Jalna district border. This stretch covers Amravati, Washim and Buldhana districts of Amravati revenue division. Its length is about 256km. The third package is for the stretch in Marathwada. It starts from Jalna-Buldhana district border and goes up to Vaijapur through Jalna and Aurangabad districts, with a length of 165km. The fourth package covers the stretch from Vaijapur to Ghoti (near Igatpuri in Nashik district) and passes through Ahmednagar and Nashik districts. The fifth package is for the 80km stretch from Ghoti to Padgha. This lies entirely in Thane district. BOX Metro rail to be completed by August 2019 Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) may have set a target of completing the project by December 2018 but the state government's deadline is August 2019. CM Fadnavis made this announcement while providing the details of progress on the major infrastructure projects of the state. It is imperative for NMRCL to complete the project on time otherwise it will face a huge cost escalation. According to NMRCL managing director Brijesh Dixit, the project is at present ahead of schedule. However, the actual work on the project has started now and only time will tell whether NMRCL is able to maintain its pace.
